Developed and produced in Japan, the Hario V60 has become the most popular pour-over method for leading baristas around the world.
The Hario V60 has long been a brewing method loved by professionals and coffee lovers alike for its flexibility and the freedom it allows. With its flowing ridges, light weight, and straightforward design, the Hario V60 coffee dripper is a fundamental tool in any filter setup and a must-have in your equipment. V60 drippers are available in ceramic or plastic. At 19grams, we particularly recommend the plastic version because it allows the brew to maintain a constant temperature during preparation. The wave-like ridges and precise 60° angle optimally support water flow and ensure that even the subtlest flavor nuances are extracted.
Below, you’ll find the recipe we use and recommend to all 19grams coffee brewers. We work with different grind settings for each coffee—depending on the roast and type of bean—to achieve a tasty, clean cup for your home brew.
Our Recipe
V60 for 2 Cups:
• Brew Ratio: 1:15–16, depending on the grinder and water quality
• Dose: 20–24 g
• Water Amount: 300 g–350 g
• Brew Time: 2:30–3:30 minutes
• Grind Setting on Mahlkönig EK24: 11–13 on the new EK dial
Step by step
- 1. Place your equipment on your scale and tare it so you can measure the water accurately during brewing.
- 2. Insert the filter paper in the V60 and rinse it to remove any paper flavors.
- 3. Boil the water. A temperature between 92°C and 96°C is the sweet spot. If you’re using a standard kettle, bring the water to a boil and then let it cool for 1–2 minutes.
- 4. Pour the ground coffee into the filter. To distribute the coffee as evenly as possible, give the filter a gentle nudge with your hand (hold it steady!). Tare your scale before you start pouring.
- 5. Start a timer, then slowly and carefully pour 25 g of water into the center, watching the coffee as it blooms. This phase is called the “bloom.”
- 6. At the 30-second mark, the coffee should be fully bloomed; now add another 50–70 g of water. You can gently stir with a spoon to make sure all coffee grounds are saturated. Pour until you reach 175 g. After another minute, pour up to 300 g. Stir lightly again. Your brew should finish dripping through at around 3 minutes.
We hope you like it
